Northwest Civic Association holds regular monthly meetings, annual meetings, special meetings, and several events throughout the year. Meeting agendas are posted on our home page shortly before each meeting, and meeting minutes are posted here about a month afterward, pending trustees’ approval. Please come and join us!
Regular Meetings
During regular monthly meetings, guest speakers present topics of local interest, and the Trustees deliberate on re-zoning and graphics variance applications, during which the public is encouraged to participate with questions and feedback.
Our regular monthly meetings usually begin at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, (occasionally we take a month off) at various locations around the area. The public is welcome, except when the board meets in executive session. Beginning with our April 6, 2022 meeting, we will be meeting in person with a Zoom option for members of the public who still prefer to attend virtually.

November NWCA Meeting
The November NWCA meeting is canceled, but we encourage people to attend the Zone In public hearings at City Hall. This is our last chance to weigh in on the type of neighborhood we would like to see over the next 30 or 40 years (or longer). Do you want mixed use? How do you feel about car washes?
There will be a public hearing November 5 from 5-7PM in City Council Chambers (90 W. Broad St.) to discuss public feedback, and another hearing November 19 from 5-8PM at City Council Chambers..
Here’s a message from Monica Tuttle, Zoning and Graphics Chair:
Zone In has conveyed to City Council that there wasn't that much public feedback because people are very supportive of the changes. This is our opportunity to share concerns about how difficult it was to engage in the public feedback process.
It is also the opportunity to talk about conserving our neighborhoods (keeping mixed-use out of residential areas to allow a network of interconnected uses along our "corridor"), incorporating green space and increasing trees (and not taking steps that will increase surface water and drainage issues), and maintaining reasonable setbacks so that there is room to put trees along streets and new buildings are not shoved right up against the edge of a property line.
If Zone In does not describe the city as we hope it to be in the coming years, this is our last chance to weigh in before the proposed language is presented to City Council. Contact NWCAZoning@gmail.com or reach out to me directly with additional questions/concerns.
October NWCA Meeting
The next NWCA meeting will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 7:00 PM at Meadow Park Church, 2425 Bethel Road, Room 213. We will have a Zoom option.
Note that the Zone In activity in the room may not be easily seen or heard during that portion, so we urge you to come in person, if possible. If you plan to participate via Zoom, please explore the materials on the Zone In Phase 2 site.
The comment period for Zone In Phase 2 ends on October 24, 2026.

April NWCA Meeting (Zoom Only)
The April NWCA Meeting will take place on Zoom from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on April 1st.
Guest: Staff from ZoneIN will update us on Phase 2 and opportunities for you to comment on their plans. The already approved part of Phase 2 covered only land use. They are now moving on to other aspects of zoning such as green space, lighting, building setbacks, and other aspects of the built environment.
Zoning hearings:
559 Knightsbridge (Z26-003): Applicant is seeking to modify the zoning text and site plan of the existing Commercial Planned Development (CPD) District to incorporate the adjacent parcel upon which an office building currently sits. The existing building will be demolished and courts added. At this time the parcels (010-016606 & 010-018-18234) are not being combined but the proposed CPD will apply to both.

Special Meeting - ZoneIN Phase 2
Last month, the group working on updating the Columbus Zoning Code presented Phase 2 plans. Phase 1 was approved last year and was limited to commercial properties. Phase 2 consists of a larger group of properties that may include condominium developments and apartments, but not single family homes.
NWCA has arranged for a special meeting to give people in the area an opportunity to present their opinions. Please invite your neighbors to attend on Monday, August 25th at 6:30 pm at the Northwest Church of the Nazarene, 5707 Olentangy River Rd. There will be no Zoom option for this meeting.
ZoneIN staff will bring relevant maps and walk through the current zoning context, including how areas updated in Phase 1 may influence what’s ahead.

March NWCA Meeting
The March NWCA Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at 7:00 pm at Northwest Church of the Nazarene (5707 Olentangy River Road) and via Zoom.
NWCA Special Meeting
There will be a special Zoom only meeting to hear the following zoning variance and graphics applications on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 6:30 pm. If you have questions about either of these applications, please email NWCAzoning@gmail.com.
1) BZA24-045: A zoning variance has been requested for 1071 Beechview Dr N to permit an addition on a private home, which currently encroaches on a side yard setback.
2) Second hearing on tabled application GC23-046: Graphics variances have been requested for 1329-47 Bethel Rd (Noble Academy) to allow window graphics and signage that exceed the amount allowed by the graphics code.
July NWCA Meeting
The July NWCA Meeting will be on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 7:00 pm at Northwest Church of the Nazarene (5707 Olentangy River Road) and via Zoom.
Zoning/Variances – New process being implemented by Zoning Committee to streamline hearings. - Monica
1741 Marshlyn Ct. (BZA23-057) – Reduce rear yard requirement from 25% to 14.5% of lot to allow for a split-level deck.
6061 Buffalo Head Trail (BZA22-035) – Two variances to permit current shrubs to be taller than permitted near street and in the ‘clear vision triangle’ near an intersection.
915 Greenridge Rd.(BZA23-062) — Variance for a recently built fence that is taller and more opaque than permitted.
5085 Reed Rd. (BZA23-058) — Variance to eliminate requirement for parking and headlight screening between the parking lot and Northcrest Park.
NWCA Annual Meeting - NOTE Time Change for Zoning
NWCA is holding their 2023 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 7th at the Northwest Church of the Nazarene (5707 Olentangy River Road). Because we also have two zoning hearings, we will have those at 6:00 PM, then begin our program at 7:00 PM. The program will feature a Town Hall to solicit input from our community members about local concerns and priorities. We want to hear from you. Columbus City Council reaches out to NWCA for feedback and this is your opportunity to AMPLIFY YOUR VOICE!
We will have light refreshments, including some from the Refectory. All are welcome to the zoning portion and the Annual Meeting.
We will vote on trustees and other matters. Join us in person or via Zoom.

May NWCA Meeting
The May NWCA Meeting will be on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 7:00 pm at Northwest Church of the Nazarene (5707 Olentangy River Road) and via Zoom.
Guest Speakers:
Staff from Zone In Columbus will update us about the effort to modernize our zoning code to make development smarter and more equitable. There will be opportunities for residents, property owners, and business owners to weigh in.
Bradley Westall from the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department will tell us about the status of the West Case Road Park (AKA The Sheep Farm).
Zoning
1041-1101 Bethel Rd. (ZA23-001 (amending Z08-040A) Bethel-Kenny Center wants to amend its existing site plan to add 1) a 1,540 square foot restaurant patio; 2) a 8’x12’ walk in freezer; and 3) a 10’x10’ walk-in freezer.
